“She worked so hard to be the best! And then it made her... so what does that mean? That we shouldn’t try hard? Because it’ll make us unwell and sad and... so we shouldn’t try?”

In a run-down village hall, 20 of the best young musicians in Scotland are rehearsing. The music is hard, but they can work harder. This time, they’ll be perfect. This time, they’ll finally make their parents, and their exacting conductor, proud.

They shuffle their music, tune up and begin.

But is being the best worth it, if the price is losing your soul?
